氣動和液壓系統一般分為氣液源及處理系統，控制元器件，和執行元器件等組成，以上所說的各種閥都屬于控制元器件。顧名思義，就是控制氣液路系統各種介質或者參數。不外乎方向，流量，壓力等等，以上這些閥也就是起這個作用。
先說方向控制閥，顧名思義就是控制流體的方向的，你所說的所說的換向閥和單向閥都屬于方向控制閥。換向閥幾乎是所有氣液動元器件里種類最多，總量最大，相對來說也最受關注的一類元器件了。大家常常聽到的什么兩位兩通，兩位三通，三位五通等等都屬于方向控制閥。
溢流閥屬于壓力控制閥，就是說壓力達到或者超過某一個設定值后，氣體從溢流口流出，從而保護系統的壓力。
比例閥和伺服閥是從另外一個維度對閥進行分類。例如流量比例閥是對閥的流量進行自動的無級的調節，輸入的電流信號與輸出的氣體流量成一定的比例關系。這與傳統的閥差別很大。伺服閥用于伺服控制系統中，提高了系統的響應速度。這兩種閥里又包含了壓力控制閥和流量控制閥。比例閥與伺服閥與傳統的電磁方向和壓力控制閥相比價格高很多，一般的自動化行業較少用到。

These two types of valves also include pressure control valves and flow control valves. Proportional and servo valves are much more expensive than traditional electromagnetic directional and pressure control valves, and are less commonly used in the automation industry.
